steven wright joke archive

Written archive of tons of comedian Steven Wright's beautifully surreal and short jokes. Also listed (with proper attributions) are some jokes commonly and mistakenly attributed to him.

"I have a decaffeinated coffee table. You'd never know it to look at it."

"The other day somebody stole everything in my apartment and replaced it with an exact replica... When my roommate came home I said, 'Roommate, someone stole everything in our apartment and replaced it with an exact replica.' He looked at me and said, 'Do I know you?' "

"I put tape on the mirrors in my house so I don't accidentally walk through into another dimension."

"Sponges grow in the ocean. That just kills me. I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be if that didn't happen."

Psychedelic Lecture Archive

Lectures by Alan Watts, Terence McKenna, Robert Anton Wilson, Leary, Alex Grey and more.

This is the only time I'll swipe material from the masterful boingboing blog, I promise. I just had to share this archive.

CLOWNS!

In anticipation of my own clowning this Halloween weekend, I found some clowns the world should know better.

But first, process a concise American Clown History

Western clowns bringing joy to Iraq

Tommy, and krumping clowns from south central Los Angeles. You can also be his myspace friend.

boffo arms
Buffo, the World's Strongest Clown

Rebel Clown Army!

Avraham Landau, Jerusalem's favorite Jewish clown, "an interesting person with a special gift that everyone desires – Happiness!"

gacy
Pogo the Clown, aka John Wayne Gacy - the man, the myth, the Chicago serial killer/rapist

Also, fuck Ronald McDonald and Insane Clown Posse.

Prisonsucks.com

A site dedicated to current, solid statistics about American incarceration industry.

Here's a fave of mine:

South Africa under apartheid (1993), Black males in prison: 851 per 100,000

U.S. under George Bush (2004), Black males in prison: 4,919 per 100,000

As the site explains: "Too often prison activists use statistics that are out of date, provided without citation or simply wrong. One of these days the public will start listening to prison activists, so let's be prepared to win without being sidetracked by arguments over defective statistics. In some cases, the numbers we need don't exist. In others, the facts exist but activists don't know where to find them. Now you do."

A sound plan for any branch of activists, I do believe.

Freestyle appreciation

I'm sick of people who don't know hip hop saying they can freestyle without ever trying it. Yes, you may be able, in theory, to outrhyme your drunk buddies, but try a dose of some real craft:

Biggie at age 17 on the corner

Talib Kweli freestyle on BET recently

Rhymefest illness plus interview clip

Eminem on Tek & Sway's wake-up show - old but classic

Yo! MTV Raps - final episode freestyles
-Rakim, KRS-One, Erick Sermon, Chubb Rock, Search
-A young Redman, Method Man, Extra P, Special Ed, Craig Mack

Aesop Rock, Mr. Life, El-P in concert - the audio ain't great, but the back and forth is killer. Then it goes into Lif's "Elektro"
